Frequently Asked Questions

The Dip shampoo bar is formulated and tested for all hair types, from fine straight hair to type 4 coils. The difference across textures comes down to technique: smooth hair does well with the bar gliding lightly over wet strands, while curly and textured hair lathers more easily from gentle direct contact. Customers with opposite hair types in the same household regularly report sharing the same bar with good results.
A well-formulated shampoo bar is not the same as bar soap, and that distinction matters. The Dip bar is pH balanced and uses gentle cleansing agents derived from coconut rather than the harsh alkaline soaps that can strip hair or leave a waxy residue. It removes oil and old styling products while leaving behind scalp-nourishing ingredients, so hair feels clean without the over-washed feeling some liquid shampoos cause.
The Dip shampoo bar was formulated with daily washers in mind, cleaning thoroughly without stripping the scalp. It can be used every day without that dry, over-washed feeling. One customer noted cleaner-looking results and more time between washes, which suggests the bar isn't leaving behind residue that speeds up oiliness.
There is no detox or adjustment phase with the Dip shampoo bar. It was formulated to avoid the waxy buildup associated with some bar shampoos, so no apple cider vinegar rinse or other workaround is needed. The one technique note worth knowing: before the very first use, lather the bar between your hands to break in the surface, and after that it works like any other wash.
Yes, the Dip shampoo bar is color-safe and formulated for chemically treated hair. It is sulfate-free and pH balanced, which helps protect color while still removing oil and buildup. It also contains strengthening and conditioning ingredients that can be particularly helpful for hair that has been through chemical processing.
It's a fresh, green, and earthy fragrance with supporting notes of mandarin, jasmine, and sea salt. The scent is described as salty air on an empty boardwalk with a touch of romance, and it's intentionally unisex, so it works well for households that want one scent everyone can share. A customer noted they genuinely love the wild sage and vetiver scent, which tracks with its lightly herbal, woody character.

Somewhat drying for curly hair

"Easy to use, good lather, and the unscented version didn't irritate my scalp but as a curly girl living in an arid climate I found the shampoo bar too drying — maybe it's the glycerin? Unfortunate because there's a lot to like about the product otherwise. :("

My favorite shampoo and conditioner

"I have fine long 2b curls and my 3 yr old had 3b curls. We only use the conditioner on him and it's the only one I've found that actually works. We use it once in the bath or shower. Then again as a leave in conditioner and brush it through. It's the only conditioner I've found out of 14 different brands that works. I tell everybody about it!"

"The best shampoo bar I have come across. Perfect for all hair types. This is the second bar that I have purchased and it really does last as long as they say."

Love it!

"Works great for my course curly hair. Normally I have to use a lot of styling gel but not with this. Just wash, condition and good to go. No frizz. Love it!"

I love this stuff!

"This was recommended to me by a friend of mine who also had challenges with hair loss. I feel like I’ve tried so many different things to help my hair loss but this seems to be working. I will continue to buy this product"

Easier To Use Than Bottled Shampoo

"I love DipIt Bar Shampoo. I use fragrance free. I am a senior with mobility and standing problems. The DipIt bar is easier to use than the all in one bottled shampoo, (which i thought would save me time, but it doesnt!) The DipIt leaves my very fine, thin, shoulder length hair ( colored) wavier and clean but not dried oit . I use the DipIt bar conditioner, love it. An all in one shampoo cant compare. For the bar shampoo, use the recommended: rub it softly and quickly back and forth, it'll suds up. I found less is more so i can rinse it out quicker. A little bar conditioner makes combimg my usually knotted washed hair easy. Not going back to bottled, even the "best" brands cant compare to DipIt. (5* for fragrance free conditionar bar too)"

Nellie D. (5/5)

not fragrance free- at all.

"This works well as a shampoo and it seems to be color safe, but it's not even close to fragrance free. It smells strongly of mint, despite having no mint or fragrance listed in the ingredients. I have a severe fragrance sensitivity, so this product isn't even usable for me, which is a huge bummer. I wish it were as advertised because otherwise I like it."

Ashlyn (2/5)

It doesn't do anything :(

"I was so excited to try this as someone with chronic fatigue and greasy hair. Sadly, it didn't make any difference for me."
