Sustainable Hair Care That Actually Works: Inside DIP

When I started Dip, I didn’t want to make another “eco brand.” I wanted to make something better.
Better for the planet, for your hair, and for the people who sell it.

As I told Megan Tobler on the Self StartHER podcast, “Sustainability doesn’t have to feel like a punishment. It can be luxurious, funny, and human.”

I went from studying economics and math to shampoo bars because I believed beauty could be smarter, respect customers' integrity more, and be built without fake hype. That belief turned into a salon-grade, plastic-free hair care line that now lives in surf shops, salons, and refill stores across the country.

Building a Brand With Purpose

“Community and word-of-mouth built Dip long before ads ever did.”
We didn’t launch on Amazon. We launched through people — moms, stylists, and eco-shops who believed in what we were doing. That’s the backbone of real sustainability.

Making Eco Feel Easy

When Megan asked how we made plastic-free hair care actually work, I told her: “If sustainability doesn’t perform, people won’t change.”
Dip products had to perform better than the bottles we were replacing — that’s how you create real behavior change.

Balancing Business and Motherhood

Yes, you can build a business and raise a family. It just doesn’t look like the highlight reel. “Entrepreneurship and motherhood are both messy. You just learn to surf the chaos.”

At Dip, that chaos turned into creativity.

The Story Behind “Dip”

People always ask about the name. Dip is about taking the plunge — into the ocean, into your dreams, into doing things differently. Every bar is a reminder to start where you are and make waves in your own way.

Final Thoughts

If you’ve ever wondered whether you can build a brand that’s sustainable, profitable, and you, this episode is proof that you can.
You just have to take the dip.
